Use the compression nut and washer to fasten it. Your pipe should now be running out of your dishwasher around in a high loop and down into the wye between your sink baskets. High loop to garbage disposal follow the same instructions as 1 except connect the dishwasher drain hose directly into the garbage disposal. Stopped up sinks and clogged tubing can send dirty water from the drain back into your dishwasher.

Take the loose end of the drain pipe coming out of the loop and attach it to the small inlet on the wye. Many plumbing codes do mandate dishwashers drain via an air gap fitting. Make the high loop then attach the end of the hose to the y branch tailpiece using a hose clamp. It is not a difficult task by any means and most hom. First connect the dishwasher drain hose onto the small side of the air gap mounted on the countertop or sink deck. The truth is an air gap is the most effective method to protect your dishwasher from flooding with wastewater.
